Artist in Residence: Christina Lake Arts and Artisans Society
Gillian Kloet was the Christina Lake Arts and Artisans Society Artist in Residence for two weeks in June, 2024. During her residency, Gillian had the opportunity to run integrated art and science workshops to educate elementary students on the effects of invasive species in the area, the repercussions of colonization, and our collective responsibility to care for the land and the natural species that inhabit them. Students gathered plant samples from around the lake, and created cyanotype prints to document their findings. The individual prints were sewn together by hand to form a map of Christina Lake - a thread of mutual intention to honour this land.
During her residency, Gillian also led water colour, nature printing, and cyanotype workshops for children and adults in the community. The completed pieces were assembled to create a collaborative installation in the Arts on 3 Gallery.
